Claire's French Coffee Cake


Ingredients 1/2 cup Crisco 1/2 cup butter 1 1/2 cups sugar 5 eggs 1 cup sour cream 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 3 cups cake flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 cup walnuts, chopped 1/2 cup sugar 2 squares baking chocolate, grated











Instructions Cream Crisco, butter and sugar. Add eggs and then the sour cream mixed with the baking soda, flour, baking powder, and vanilla. Put half the batter in greased spring form. Sprinkle with mixture of remaining ingredients. Top with remaining batter.


Bake at 350 for one hour.


Description Of the many sour cream coffee cakes, this is one of my most favorite.

Notes Claire was the wonderful woman who lived with my family as I was growing up. Raised in Canada, she had been taught by the nuns where she was schooled how to keep house and cook. She passed many good ideas on to me and was a very special person in my life.
