Ingredients 5 1/2 cups flour 2 packages Dry Yeast - Rapid Rise recommended 1 tablespoon sugar 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 2 teaspoons salt 2 1/2 cups milk corn meal
Instructions 1. Put 3 cups flour and the rest of the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Heat milk to 130 degrees (warm) and add to the dry mixture. Mix well. 2. Add the rest of the flour as needed to make a soft dough. You may need to use an extra 1/2 cup of flour. The dough will be sticky as you don't knead it, 3. Spray 2 loaf pans with Pam and dust with corn meal. Put dough in pans and let rise 45 minutes in a warm place. 4. Bake for 25 minutes at 400 degrees. Remove immediately from pans. Cool. Slice with serrated knife. Freeze sliced bread.
Description A wonderful treat that stores in the freezer.
Notes This recipe comes from my neighbor and friend, Jane Curtis, and it is just a marvelous recipe. Store it in the freezer, and just put it in the toaster for a yummy treat. It keeps quite a while in the freezer. I put a piece of parchment paper every four slices so that I can take those out and not defrost the full load.
Source Jane Curtis, my neighbor. She brought us a loaf when we moved in. I'm glad that she shared the recipe so that I can make it. The picture is a loaf that I made.
